  • Location: Mildenhall - Bury St Edmonds, Suffolk
  • Type: Permanent
  • Job #759

100% Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon – Mildenhall, Suffolk – £55,000-£70,000 DOE, Pro rata FTE

Put your hands up if you are looking to work for an independent practice, which has an established client base, loyal customers, and a successful reputation in the local area since 1986.
Yes, I thought so, and you will be impressed. When I spoke to their Practice Manager in detail about the practice and what they offer, I certainly was.
Could this be your next career opportunity?
When it comes to being a Vet, we understand that it’s not only about helping animals (that much is obvious) but it’s about being happy in the environment in which you work. If you are in a position where you are considering a move then look no further than here.
The practice offers clinical freedom in abundance, whilst maintaining a supportive and collaborative approach.
Experienced professionals, that genuinely, share best practices, ideas, and experience not to mention whose turn it is to make a cup of tea.
The team in this practice is second to none, you will join a team of 3 experienced Vets, 4 wonderfully supportive and knowledgeable RVNs, a Practice manager, and receptionists.
I don’t need to tell you, that being a Vet is hard work, sometimes it can be long hours, demanding caseloads, and tiring, but this practice really looks to support an excellent work-life balance.  So, if you are looking to continue full-time, 4 days per week, it will be supported, if you are looking to reduce your hours, to release some family/hobby time then it will be supported. They only ask that you are part of the Saturday morning rota once every fourth weekend, in a sole charge capacity. For this, you will be pleased to know there are no other out-of-hours requirements.
Due to sole charge, we ask applications to be made from capable and confident Vets, who have qualified at least 2-3 years ago, with up-to-date skills, RCVS status, and general practice experience in both consults and surgeries. However, all applications will be considered. If you are a consult-only Vet, please note that we want to hear from you, as the practice could also support you.
If this sounds good so far, then we should also point out that the benefits are also not bad either, they include holiday entitlement, an employee benefits scheme, pension, CPD allowance, and all fees paid towards RCVS, and VDS. When it comes to CPD, development, and ongoing progression, this is encouraged, like actually encouraged. If you have an area of specialism or an interest, they will say ‘Let’s help you get to where you want to be, to master it’.

Unfortunately, we can’t get the whole story in a job ad.
If you want a job that’s more about good people and good pets, and less about big firms, contact me and ask me any questions you have. I’m at lucy@vetfinders.co.uk.
Or, if you want to chat with the owners – and I’m convinced their interests will align with yours – send your CV. It doesn’t matter if it’s up to date. I’ll come back to you.
Work somewhere you’re respected by colleagues and clients alike, you are choosing to join a wonderful team.

Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

  • Location: Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire
  • Type: Permanent
  • Job #758

Small Animal Veterinarian – Leicestershire – £45-85k DOE, Pro rata
You’re a vet. You can answer this:
Isn’t it a nicer experience when they come into your practice and are calm and friendly?
Now, were you thinking that question was about the animals? Or the people?
You became a vet to help animals. The dealing with people side of things just kind of comes with it.
It’s better when you have a client base that you know. Who are respectful and understanding of what you do, because they’ve been coming to you for years.
And it makes you a better vet because you’ll use all your powers to keep those relationships sweet.
Luckily, there are still places like that. And one of them are hiring.

This is an independent, established for almost a decade, with hundreds of clients. The founders got out of the rat race (no offense to rats) for the same reason many vets do – they wanted their work to mean something.
As a result, it’s not just a job. It’s a community. They love what they do. And that makes them better vets. They collaborate, they discuss cases, and they learn from each other. You’ll get a budget for your continued professional development, too.
They’ll fire up the grill in summer and party over the holidays. But importantly, they’ll work together – as a team – to make the place the best it can be.
Yes, there’s on call, because obviously the animals need it. But it’s reasonable, it’s empathetic. You’ll always have an RVN with you, and the partners are only ever a phone call away. You’re always supported.
It’s not just about the bottom line, either. It’s about the experience. Whether that’s fussing over puppies and kittens, giving new owners the advice they need so that there are positive first memories of the place, or just refilling the gravy bone tub in the waiting room for the dogs to look forward to.

We can’t get the whole story in a job ad. If you want a job that’s more about good people and good pets, and less about big firms, ask me any questions you have. I’m at lucy@vetfinders.co.uk.
Or, if you want to chat to the owners – and I’m convinced their interests will align with yours – send your CV. It doesn’t matter if it’s up to date. I’ll come back to you.
Work somewhere you’re respected by colleagues and clients alike.

Veterinarian – Gloucester – £40-65k
No-one changes jobs for fun.
You move to leave something bad or gain something good. It’s not something you want to do.
You don’t plan on leaving when you join a new company. Yet things come up. You get dissatisfied. You move.
What if you could do that one last time, then never again? What if not having to move again is the thing you move for? What if there were somewhere the vets stay because they want to?
An independent vets, in a location that has been voted one of the best places to live and work, with canals and rivers, and markets.
Established over 50 years, where many vets have worked there for decades, enhanced their careers, and progressed through the ranks. People are happy. Settled. Secure. Their career box is ticked and then enjoyed. Always allowing you to focus on doing what you do best.
Vets don’t leave here because it’s not run like a chain. It’s run like an independent – fairly. The directors work the same hours as everyone else. Everyone picks up the slack. If one person gets a pay rise, everyone does. Fair.
That extends to flexibility. The rotas are sensible. They’re upfront about the hours. Everyone splits their consults, surgery and admin the same way. It averages about 35 hours a week. We’ll run through a typical week with you, but put it this way – generally everyone gets their lunch on time.
There’s two branches. The main one with 5 vets, and a one-vet branch. The one-vet branch is largely covered, so there’s little to no sole charge work.
There’s an atmosphere of “getting it”. Everyone pulls together when there’s work, and relaxes when there’s time. They’ll co-operate with you. There’s not much “management” because everyone’s on the same page.
And you’ll develop as a vet. Gain experience by working up your own cases. See things through, from presentation to surgery or investigations. There’s help if you need it. And as there’s no plans to go corporate, there’s always the possibility of directorship in future.
But staff longevity doesn’t happen without hiring the right people.
Like you. You’re a good vet. But you’re also fair, easy to get on with.
Most importantly, you want somewhere you can stick around. A place to see out your career.
Send your CV – don’t worry if it’s not up to date – to VetFinders, along with any questions. We’ll reply.
Let this be the last job you ever apply for.

The Practice
The George Veterinary Hospital is a progressive, non-corporate Veterinary Hospital boasting high clinical standards with 24hour patient care delivered by their own vets and nurses.
With the recent acquisition of another building on the High Street in Malmesbury, there will be opportunities for the Hospital to expand its services even further over the coming 12 months.
The practice has great retention, and many members of staff have been there many years. Many RVN’s have started as VCA’s, then progressed through to SVN’s and then remained as RVN’s. Many members of staff have left and then returned. They are proudly independent but a large group with 4 departments consisting of the small animal hospital, Pig, Equine and Farm.

Number of employees:
Vets: 17 (small animal),          RVN’s: 13,       SVN’s: 3,         ACA’s: 3,            Receptionist’s 14

Based in the beautiful Cotswolds, with countryside on their doorstep, but close to a mainline station. This giving easy access to London and its airports.

This is a great chance to be involved in an independent practice surrounded by a motivated supportive team helping you to do the work you are trained to do.
