Equine Veterinary Surgeon
Role: Equine?Veterinary Surgeon (Progression opportunity with Leadership)
Location: Penrith, Cumbria
Hours: Permanent, Full time, Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 5.30pm. On Call rota currently 1 in 4 to include one weeknight on call, 1 in 4 weekends with one ½ day off per week in lieu of supporting the on call rota.
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience to be confirmed with the applicant on application.

The Role:
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Equine Vet, who is used to working in mixed practice. It bolsters genuine long-term prospects, with development and leadership responsibilities over time. This role is perfect for anyone looking to make a step forward in their already successful career. There is a great deal of potential in the area and their equine turnover is growing rapidly therefore an additional Vet will help the practice to continue with that momentum.
This practice covers a wide range of equine disciplines, including racing, competition, stud and pleasure horses. Much of this is ambulatory work however they also encourage work to be brought to their purpose-built premises. The practice also houses the usual range of digital and diagnostic equipment. All vets are supported by an experienced team of veterinary technicians both at the practice and out in the field. Teamwork is very much an integral part of this role.
The ideal candidate will be someone with solid clinical and surgical experience, development is key and the opportunity to work under our senior equine Vet, will be an advantage to any potential candidate. We are looking for someone with ambition also as this could lead to a leadership role within the wider equine/practice team. An interest in stud/breeding work is beneficial to help with the already busy seasonal workload of AI mares resident at the practice.
Must haves:
- RCVS registered and qualified
- Possess the right to work in the UK
- Compassion and empathy
- Effective decision-making ability
- Excellent Interpersonal skills
- The ability to problem solve
- Excellent communication skills

The practice has been established for over 90 years and was a founding member of XLVets and remains active within that community with all the collaborative opportunities that it brings. The practice is well-respected and successfully established within the local area region.

The team currently consists of 3 Vets and 4 technicians within the equine team; lots of experience to learn from and ask for advice.
